FIAS is a voluntary industry-led initiative which aims to assure fertiliser safety, security and traceability throughout the supply chain. It aims to prevent the risks posed by the misuse of these products against people, property or the environment that might occur.
It covers all fertilisers intended for agriculture, horticulture, forestry, amenity and any other such commercial use.

FIAS is based on a risk assessment approach to achieving the necessary level of assurance, according to the type of fertiliser.

The organisations adopting the FIAS standard can be independently audited and certified to demonstrate compliance. This way they firmly state their commitment to ensuring that the fertilisers they produce only use legitimate sources of supply and are used for lawful purposes.
