Legal Compliance Update for August 2024

August 1, 2024

Why a Legal Register Matters – and Why AvISO Keeps You Up to Date

At AvISO, we believe compliance should be simple, proactive, and fully aligned with your ISO goals. That’s why we offer this free monthly Legal Register Update , helping you stay informed and prepared for audits.

Keeping your Legal Register up to date is key to meeting the requirements of ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 45001, while also reducing legal risk and improving environmental, safety, and information management.

Why You Need a Legal Register

If your organisation is certified or working towards ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, or ISO 45001, then your Legal Register helps demonstrate that you:

  • Know what legal requirements apply to you
  • Review applicability regularly
  • Take appropriate action where required
  • Maintain evidence of compliance

A strong register is one that is clear, current, and continually reviewed — that’s where we come in.

What’s New in This Month’s Update

No new legislation changes were added or removed during August 2024. However, one significant development is worth noting:

  • Update: The Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Act 2023
This act has introduced key updates to UK chemical legislation, especially affecting the CLP Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008).

Key points include:

  • Sunset clauses that could expire older EU-derived laws
  • New hazard classes, such as Endocrine Disruptors and Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic substances
  • Greater authority for UK regulators to define and enforce hazard classifications
  • Alignment with UK REACH for a more streamlined chemical compliance approach

If your business handles chemicals or hazardous substances, this may impact your obligations.
